CONSORZIO TUTELA VINI DOC VALDADIGE TERRADEIFORTI

Terradeiforti is a doc that crosses the territory of Verona and Trento. it was born in the Adige Valley which is the border between two provinces: the municipalities of Dolcè, Rivoli Veronese and Brentino Belluno in Verona area and Avio in Trento area. There are over 1300 hectares of vineyards, but in reality those who currently produce the grapes for wines doc Valdadige Terradeiforti are just around 30, since the rest is planted mainly with Pinot Grigio delle Venezie IGT . The production of doc Terradeiforti is only 250,000 bottles, composed mainly of red wine grapes which come from two very rare: the Enantio and the Casetta. Native grapes with an ancient origin, daughters of those vineyards that perhaps in Roman times, were "domesticated" by the first tenants in the area, that gathered from the forests of Mount Baldo, where they grew in the wild. Some of these vines are more than a hundred years old and are on own roots, that have never been grafted on stems of American vines, as has occurred almost everywhere in Europe after the outbreak of phylloxera and hatred of the nineteenth century. True archeology vine and wine, almost a form of heroic resistance to the globalization of the wine market.
About Enantio (a local grape variety) there is a mention in literature as far back as Pliny the Old who, in the second century A.D. talked about a wild local vine “La brusca: hoc est vitis silvestris, quod vocatur oenanthium” (the brusca: a wild vine called Enantio).
In the sixteenth century reference was again made to the Enantio wine in “Storia naturale dei vini” (A Natural History of Wines) by Bacci.
Of its origin far into the future this grape preserves the memory in its rusticity: wine gives no half measures since intense ruby color, which is maintained with aging (has good aging capacity).
Its bouquet starts with dark fruit and goes through balsamic scentes. In the mouth, the structure is strong and well strengthened by important tannins. Casetta is also a local vine species and has almost always been present in Terradeiforti and in the valley of the Adige among the woods of Mount Baldo, not surprisingly known as the "Botanical Garden of Europe" for the extraordinary wealth of its botanical heritage. According to local tradition the Casetta is also known as Foja Tonda, “the Lambrusco a Foglia Tonda” (roundleafed Lambrusco). Recovered from oblivion in which it was precipitated by a few decades, herself lucky at the end of the last century, coming to get the doc in 2006. It is recognized by the net aromas of cherry, very typical for the spicy hints of black pepper and for its rustic elegance.
